January 1945 Official Guide reprint
This issue of the Guide documents the transition between steam and diesel, between heavyweight and streamlined trains. World War II placed extreme demands on America's rail infrastructure and passenger loads were at their highest level since the 1920's. Following the war, the railroad passenger industry began the long slide into years of decline and revenue losses that culminated in "train-offs" and finally Amtrak. Like all of our reprints, the 1945 is printed on high-quality, acid-free paper.

Here are some sample pages from the 1945 reprint. Please note that the images shown here are at a much lower resolution than the actual book pages.

June 1954 Official Guide reprint
The 1954 reprint captures the final years before the railroads began to curtail service in earnest or to get out of passenger service altogether. Trains like the Broadway Limited and the 20th Century Limited still bragged about the number of sleepers and even the Boston & Maine ran named varnish to Portland. Maine and Halifax, N.S. 1536 pages printed on acid-free paper, perfect-bound.
